Mixed anxiety and depression is the most commonly diagnosed mental health problem in the United Kingdom.  According to recent figures, 4-10% of people will experience depression in their lifetime.  I am one of these 4%-10% of people, and I have found Yoga to be instrumental in my recovery.

Why choose Yoga to improve your mental Health?

  • Yoga is so effective because it works with the body's own innate resources for healing and maintaining balance.

  • It builds self efficacy and resiliency

  • Yoga movements and breath practices affects brain structures affected in anxiety and depression

  • Yoga increases GABA, the brains major inhibitory neurotransmitter, having an effect similar to that of Xanax

Dr Candace Pert recently published research on the biochemical connections that knit the human being together.  She has proven that the body itself contains an extraordinary system of receptors or mini-minds.  These tiny sensing devices receive messages from specific chemicals of thought and emotion, such as hormones or neurotransmitters.   The mind is therefore not just in your brain. There are hot spots or nodal points, saturated with receptors, throughout the body.

The body can have an impact on the brain, and the brain can have an impact on the body.   Dr Pert in her book Molecules of emotion, writes "Mind doesn't dominate body, it becomes body - body and mind are one."
